STATE SEMIFINALS: Mansfield Timberview prepped for Cedar Park
Dropping only one game the entire season with a top 15 national ranking, the Mansfield Timberview Lady Wolves have proven their dominance in Texas high school basketball this season. From the first whistle through district play, the Lady Wolves haven't hesitated for even a moment on the court. VYPE DFW takes a dive into their season and how they got to this point.
The team's only loss came early in non-district play in a close 66-58 battle against San Antonio Clark. Despite the loss, the team had extremely talented performances resulting in non-district victories over Tascosa, McKinney, Westlake, Amarillo, South Grand Prairie (who is playing in their own state semifinals respectively), Allen, Frisco Liberty, and more. Through district play, the team posted an undefeated, 16-0 record with convincing wins over Arlington Seguin, Joshua, Midlothian, Burleson, Frisco Centennial, Midlothian Heritage, and more to finish at the top of their district standings.
Tamaiya Mims, Kamryn Wilson, Synia Roberts, Maryaune Adeyeye, Chrishawn Coleman, Emilee Jones, Jaila Johnson, Paige Smith, Zoi McClellan, and others are among the leadership in this heavy-upperclassman squad. Leading the charge all season long, these athletes have posted incredible moments on the court that have continued to help power the team through the playoffs. So far in the playoffs, the Lady Wolves have sent home Lake Dallas, Aledo, Denton Ryan, and Amarillo before making their way to the state semifinals.
The state tournament is set and Mansfield Timberview has its sights on Cedar Park-- a team that has gone 27-11 this season. Looking to post a dominant victory on Thursday night, fans can expect the Lady Wolves to play with incredible spirit in hopes of securing a spot in the UIL Class 5A Basketball State Title game.
Tip-off for the semifinals is 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 29 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
SEMIFINALS PREVIEW: Mansfield Timberview heads back to San Antonio
After winning state titles in 2017 and 2019, Mansfield Timberview is back in San Antonio for the UIL Class 5A boys basketball state tournament. The Wolves faced a tough schedule, but through their effort made it clear that they were going to accept nothing less than a tournament appearance. VYPE DFW takes a look at their season and what to expect:
Season In Review
After being knocked out of the playoffs last season by Amarillo, Mansfield Timberview came into this season on a mission. The Wolves posted only one loss during district play as they finished at the top of their district. With victories over the likes of Seguin, Crowley, Everman, Burleson Centennial, and more, Mansfield Timberview had their eyes on the prize en route to playoffs. Led by seniors Jared Washington, Donovon O'Day, and Chendall Weaver, the Wolves have outscored their opponents by nearly 600 points this season.
During playoffs, Mansfield Timberview defeated Fort Worth Southwest, Grapevine, Mansfield Legacy, Chapin, and most recently- Amarillo. In the revenge match against Amarillo, Mansfield Timberview played strong defense as they posted the 68-59 victory.
A Look Ahead- What to Expect
Mansfield Timberview (35-4) is headed into the state semifinals matchup against Boerne-Champion (33-6). While the Wolves have seen this stage before, this is a first time for Boerne-Champion. With Weaver coming into the game after scoring 28 points against Amarillo, it's safe to say the Wolves have prepared for this all season. Led by the senior trio, the Wolves shouldn't have a tough time putting up a fight against Boerne-Champion. Expect to see smart playing from the Wolves as they use their togetherness to continue pushing towards the state title game.
