With week one victories in the rearview, Richardson's J.J. Pearce and Weatherford are bracing for a week two battle against each other. Both teams are looking to remain undefeated so far in the 2023-24 football season. VYPE DFW dives into the details:
Richardson J.J. Pearce Mustangs (1-0)
Last season, the Mustangs finished with a 4-6 overall record (4-4 in district play). Looking to get off to a better start this season, the team opened their schedule at home against Wylie where they recorded a close 35-32 victory. Showcasing their talent, drive, and determination, athletes like Ryan Williams, Ray Long, Jack McGarry, Aaron Berardinelli, Presley Harper, Parker Berry, George Fossey, Ryan Dodgen, Zach Simpson, and more have put in the work to be major playmakers this season. The team looks to continue their win-streak on Friday as they travel to Weatherford to take on the Kangaroos.
Weatherford Kangaroos (1-0)
The Weatherford Kangaroos posted a 7-3 overall record (4-3 in district play) last season. Without a playoff appearance, the Kangaroos have been fired up and working hard to get back on track this fall. Traveling to Keller last week, Weatherford posted a convincing 44-19 victory over Keller Central. Geared up for action, athletes like Xavier Holder, Fabian Busane, Asa Dowling, Keats Bohannon, Micah Moore, Samuel Roderick, Bruin Wright, Wyatt Reeves, Peyton Middleton, CJ Thornton, Andrew Groh, William Jordan, Auston Young, and more are ready to bring the heat against Pearce this Friday.
What To Expect
In a revenge match from last season's week two showdown in which Weatherford posted a 41-31 victory over Pearce, the Mustangs are looking to put a stop to the Kangaroo's dominant-style of play. Pearce's defense is going to have to make big plays against Weatherford's offensive effort if they want to pull off a victory in week two this season. Weatherford, showing their ability to easily move the ball through the air as well as rush for gains, has what it takes to pull away quickly if the Mustangs are unable to shut them down quickly.
Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Kangaroo Stadium.
