Rockwall-Heath Baseball's Resiliency leads the Hawks to the UIL State Tournament
Throughout the season, Rockwall-Heath has been exceptional when it comes to bouncing back stronger than ever after a loss. This has proven to be the case even in the playoffs. With tenacity and a goal to finish the season as state champions, the Hawks are headed to the UIL Class 6A State Tournament. Let's take a look at how they got there!
The Rockwall-Heath Hawks finished their regular season just a little bit behind rival Rockwall. With big wins over the likes of Flower Mound, Frenship, Horn, North Mesquite, and more the Hawks showed their strength every time they faced an opponent en route to the playoffs.
Once it came time for playoffs, the Hawks refused to slow down. Facing Rowlett first, Rockwall-Heath advanced in only two games (14-4, 7-0) before taking down Mansfield in another two (5-2, 8-4). After an initial loss to Sachse, the Hawks used the next two games to regroup, winning both with shutout scores (5-0, 10-0). In the Regional Semi-Finals, the Hawks defeated Tomball in three games (8-0, 3-7, 3-2) before advancing to the Regional Finals where they were to face an incredible Rockwall team yet again.
Rockwall-Heath dropped the first game of the Regional Final series and things might have looked grim for many of those who lacked hope, but the Hawks never doubted their ability. Scoring 11 runs in each of the next two games, the Hawks defeated Rockwall and advanced to the State Semifinals.
Rockwall-Heath has been known for coming into the games this season and doing what they can to hold off their opponents before scoring big for themselves to close out the game. Fans can expect the Hawks to come into the State Tournament ready to fight to claim the UIL Class 6A State Title.
Regional Finals Preview: Rockwall vs. Rockwall-Heath baseball
It's an all Rockwall ISD showdown in the UIL Class 6A Region II Regional Finals as the Rockwall Yellowjackets prepare to face-off against the Rockwall-Heath Hawks.
Rockwall (30-11-1)
Rockwall has been on fire this season as they have taken on each opponent without a single shadow of a doubt in their team or ability. With only two losses in district play, the Yellowjackets finished at the top of their district above the likes of Tyler Legacy and Skyline.
Rockwall has shown their ability to score early and often throughout the season. Their bats come in hot and don't stop until the game is over. Offense has played a key role in Rockwall's success this season as they have outscored their opponents by 125 runs on the season.
Fans can expect no less than the best coming out of the Yellowjackets as they enter the series. Coming in to the Regional Finals after a 2-0 sweep over Grand Oaks (7-0, 7-1) the Yellowjackets are on a high 17 game win-streak. It's safe to say that Rockwall is ready to take on Rockwall-Heath giving everything they got in an attempt to make a UIL State Championship game appearance.
Rockwall-Heath (34-10-1)
The Hawks have been another team that has shown their ability to keep the wins coming. Rockwall-Heath has stepped up to the plate time and time again to take down opponents that were favorited to knock them out of the running for a State Championship appearance.
Rockwall-Heath has beaten the likes of Rowlett, Mansfield, South Grand Prairie, Flower Mound, and more en route to the Regional Finals. Facing many common opponents as Rockwall, the Hawks should come into the game pretty confident.
Though the Hawks have consistently taken a couple of innings to get on the board, they haven't had a hard time utilizing their defense to maintain a level playing field. As bats combine with a strong defense, it's going to be hard for Rockwall to shut down Rockwall-Heath.
Previous Meetings
So far this season, the two teams have already met twice. The teams split the games with the Yellowjackets winning the first (5-1) before the Hawks won the second (8-3).
Since the two teams have multiple common opponents and have seen each other on the field a couple of times, fan can expect nothing less than top-notch baseball in the Regional Finals series.
Game 1 of the Regional Finals series is set to begin at 7:30 pm Wednesday at Dallas Baptist University.
