District Wrap-Up: Rockwall Lady Yellowjackets
Wrapping up a hard-fought regular season schedule, the Rockwall Lady Yellowjackets are gearing up for their final game in their district schedule-- a battle against Tyler Legacy on Tuesday, February 6 in Tyler. As they prep for their matchup, VYPE DFW takes a look at their season so far!
Non-District Play
Through non-district play, Rockwall was able to set the tone for their season. Posting several big wins over the likes of Prosper Rock Hill, McKinney High, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Reedy, Midlothian, Mansfield Legacy, and more. Powering through tough moments and learning from every battle, the Lady Yellowjackets finished non-district play with a 14-7 record before entering district play.
District Play
Despite posting a handful of losses in their district schedule, Rockwall has recorded victories that have drawn attention to their program. Defeating Mesquite Horn, Beaumont United, Nacogdoches, Richardson, North Forney, Tyler Legacy, Rockwall-Heath, and Mesquite, the team has racked up a 7-4 district record; finding themselves in the second place spot in their district standings-- just behind Royse City.
Looking Ahead
Last season, the team went two rounds deep into the playoffs before falling to DeSoto. This season, their intention this season is to go further. The team has been able to build up their strength and stamina on the court during games and practice; securing their ability to showcase their power over their opponents.
Made up of talented athletes like Aubreyanna Yelverton, Nhira Iverson, Allyson Otis, Mack Lindigrin, Liz Laurence, Bri'kayla Person, Nicole Aguirre, and others, Rockwall can be expected to finish their district schedule on a high and begin their prep work for the playoffs. Fans can expect the Lady Yellowjackets to continue strong with the potential for a deep playoff run.
Rockwall Yellowjackets go unscathed in victory over Rockwall-Heath
In their first district matchup of the season, the Rockwall Yellowjackets traveled across town to face off against rival Rockwall-Heath in a battle everyone anticipated. With a 38-22 victory, Rockwall started their district play on the right foot!
Landyn Locke and Mason Marshall combined for a total of 129 passing yards on the evening against Heath. Leading the run game for the Yellowjackets, Ashten Emory recorded 15 carries for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Leading in receiving for the Yellowjackets was Tristan Gooch who brought in six catches for 117 yards-- not far behind was Kai Helton who tallied two catches for 103 yards.
In the battle against the Hawks, the team showcased great effort and continued to fight against a tough defense. As they move forward in district play, fans can expect this bunch to continue their focus. The team's next matchup is a home game against Mesquite Horn on Friday, September 29th with kick-off slated for 7 p.m.
Heath, now 3-2, looks to bounce back as they travel to Mesquite on Friday to take on the Skeeters.
