Coaches Corner: Second Baptist School Tennis Coach David Hall
David Hall has called Second Baptist School home for the past decade.
Originally, Hall came to the campus as a football coach and then eventually also fell in love with the sport of tennis. He previews the 2020 season with VYPE's Joshua Koch.
The 411: Second Baptist School's Vincent Tyrrell
Vincent Tyrrell '20 has grown up inside the walls of the Second Baptist School.
The senior has attended the school for 15 years and has played the last three on the varsity tennis team, getting close to a state tournament berth last season.
Tyrrell, who will attend Baylor University in the fall for Film & Digital Media, sat down with VYPE at the Second Baptist School spring media day.
VYPE: How'd you get into tennis?
Tyrrell: "I had a friend or two who was interested in the sport. They invited me one day to a practice. I went, thought it was fun and just kept playing."
VYPE: What have you worked on the most to try and get to the state tournament in 2020?
Tyrrell: "My serve needed a lot of work. I'm focused on accuracy and precision, rather than just speed and power, which is what I focused on last year. So, now I'm working on pinpointing certain angles, so my opponent has to run around a lot more."
VYPE: How did you go about fixing your serve?
Tyrrell: "There's a lot of mechanics, a lot of practice. Just figuring out how to place your racket on the ball and get on top of it, while still controlling where it's going to go."
VYPE: How do you feel about your serve compared to last year?
Tyrrell: "I feel better than I did last season. It's more consistent and when I hit it in it's faster. It goes the way I want it to go. It's improved a lot."
VYPE: What has Second Baptist School meant to you?
Tyrrell: "I've been here for 15 years. Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to play tennis for the team. So, now I am in my senior season and I've been on the team all four years. I love the school. I love people in the school."
VYPE: What do you like to do outside of playing tennis and schoolwork?
Tyrrell: "I do a lot of film editing. I work with Adobe Premiere, After Effect. I love hanging out with my friends. We go see movies and work out together."
VYPE: What is your dream job?
Tyrrell: "I would love to move to Los Angeles or New York and do music videos or film. Record, edit and get paid for it. That's the dream."
