Dedicated to Greatness: South Grand Prairie Softball
After such a successful season last year, it's no wonder that the Lady Warriors have been putting hard work to the test this season and giving every ounce of energy into being one of the best teams in the metroplex- if not the state. As the South Grand Prairie Lady Warriors softball team continues to advance in the UIL Class 6A softball playoffs with an upcoming Area-round series against Allen, VYPE DFW takes a look at their season so far:
Pre-Season Play
Dropping only a handful of games as they used the preseason to prepare for greatness, the Lady Warriors were on it from the beginning. The team went head-to-head against extremely tough opponents and was able to post victories against the likes of Midlothian (5-3), Lockhart (17-0), San Antonio Brandeis (6-2), Houston's HCYA (8-0), Rockwall-Heath (2-0), Prosper (5-0), Wylie East (7-3), and more.
Led by Cassidy Fixico, Adriana Mountcastle, Kiya Jones, Kenosha Bass, Jasmyn Lloyd, Sophia Simmons, Kaylee Steinbring, Jade Evans, Jernie Nerio, and more, the Lady Warriors were off to a great start; figuring out their groove at the plate, on the mound, and in the field.
District Play
Taking their preseason success into district play, with a 23-0 victory over Arlington Lamar to open their district schedule, South Grand Prairie never looked back. In fact, against their district opponents, the Lady Warriors allowed only four runs to cross the plate; three in a 10-3 victory over Arlington Martin and one in an 11-1 victory over Arlington.
Not only did South Grand Prairie shut out the rest of their district opponents, but they showed their talent at the plate and running the bases- scoring over 10 runs each game. The Lady Warriors went undefeated in district play (12-0) as they beat Arlington Lamar (23-0, 15-0), Arlington Martin (10-3), Arlington Sam Houston (27-0), Grand Prairie (13-0), Arlington (11-1), and Arlington Bowie (16-0).
Playoffs
So far in playoffs, South Grand Prairie is taking the same method they have had all season and putting it to work. In the Bi-District round of playoffs, the Lady Warriors faced off against a tough Lake Highlands team. Continuing their pattern of holding their opponents scoreless, the Lady Warriors defeated Lake Highlands 18-0 to head to the Area round of play.
In the Area round, South Grand Prairie is geared up to play Allen (23-12-2); the same team they beat in their history-making season's third round of the playoffs last season. With an overall 25-6 record this season and a focus that has been unmatched by their opponents, the Lady Warriors can be expected to continue etching their name into another historic season for South Grand Prairie. Having outscored their opponents by a combined 309-81 runs so far this season, there's no doubt that South Grand Prairie Softball is on a mission that they won't be ready to cut short this week in the Area round!
Game one of the series is Thursday, May fourth in front of a home crowd with a first-pitch time set for 6 p.m. Game two will be held in Allen on Friday, May fifth with a first-pitch set for 6 p.m.
