THE POWER RANKINGS: Westwood, Stony Point, Round Rock 25-6A trifecta top Austin-area boys basketball poll
Yikes, District 25-6A is stacked!
That’s the takeaway after a few more district games and a whole host of tournament action all across the state this past week. Through it all, undefeated Westwood (16-0) remains on top the stack after winning the Cedar Creek Tournament in Bastrop. Stony Point won the boys’ side of the prestigious Jack Frost Tournament in Georgetown to stay right behind while district mate Round Rock (13-3) was the runner-up of the Midlothian Heritage Hoopsfest up north.
St. Michael’s (15-2) ran the table of the inaugural Pflugerville ISD Tournament to prove they’re no flash in the pan while Liberty Hill punched above their weight at 3-2 in the Jack Frost to close out the Top 5.
Other tournament winners in the rankings included Lockhart (11-0) and Lago Vista (11-1). The Lions moved up and remained undefeated after claiming the awesomely-named Schmeckenfest Showdown in La Grange while the Vikings won the Alto-Cody Self Invitational to climb two spots and remain the highest 4A program in the poll.
As mentioned last week, with more games now in the books, we’ve expanded the Power Rankings to 15 teams, allowing Brentwood Christian, Vandegrift, Georgetown, Dripping Springs and Connally to pop up. With district play ramping up this week, we’ll see how that all shakes things up after some already significant shifting around this past week. And most teams still have one round of Holiday tournaments ahead after Christmas.
The temperatures have cooled off but the Power Rankings are heating up!

THE POWER RANKINGS: Westwood tops all-too-soon first Austin-area boys basketball poll
You’ve gotta start somewhere.
High school basketball polls the week after Thanksgiving are about as useful as a turkey leg left out on the counter overnight, but what the heck? We’ll take a stab at it and adjust accordingly once the reality of playing more than a dozen or so games kicks in.
All disclaimers aside, Westwood looks to be pretty solid, debuting at #1 after a 12-0 start including back-to-back blow-out district wins. The Warriors barely edge out #2 Stony Point (8 -2) for the top spot after the Tigers bombed a decent Vandegrift squad and fought off Vista Ridge. Round Rock (9-2) rounds out the District 25-6A podium sweep. Keep an eye on those three duking it out in district play.
St. Michael’s (10-2) caught our eye with an impressive road win at Stony Point. We’ll keep an eye on the TAPPS powerhouse as they face several other decent UIL schools throughout December before beginning district play. Westlake serves as District 26-6A’s sole representative at #5, leading a parade of throw-a-blanket-over-them 5A clubs from #6-9 with 4A Lago Vista cracking our initial poll.
We’ll likely expand the poll to 15 schools heading into 2025 as things come further into focus. But for now, it’s a start.
