THE RANKINGS: District 23-6A, Randle, Kinkaid look dominant
It was an impressive week for VYPE’s Class 6A Top 25 as only three teams lost in Week 5.
Three teams move into the new rankings with big wins last week. They include Dickinson, Klein Oak and Cy-Fair.
The rankings should be impacted this week with several important games between ranked opponents.
In Class 5A, the Randle Lions won the first big Class 5A battle, knocking off No. 2 Iowa Colony. Could they meet again in the postseason?
The Lions play complementary football and will run the table in the regular season. Coach Brian Randle’s group in impressive.
Lake Creek lost a wild one at defending State Champs Port Neches-Groves, while Dayton and Barber Hill also dropped games and out of the Top 10.
Welcome Texas City (3-1) and Galena Park (3-2) to the VYPE Class 5A Top 10.
In the private school landscape, the Kinkaid Falcons handled the No. 1 Second Baptist Eagles, 21-7, in tune-up to district play, while St. John’s beat ranked Lutheran South and bumped the Pioneers out of the rankings.
The SPC is going to be a dog-fight, while the TAPPS districts are pretty wide open.
Here are the rankings.

North Shore, Summer Creek flex in Class 6A VYPE Rankings
What a Week 1 it was in Greater Houston High School football.
The stars were out as some of the traditional powers flexed early in the opener.
How about the North Shore Mustangs demolishing South Oak Cliff of Dallas 38-0 in a battle of H-Town and D-Town? The North Shore Mustangs may have the most talent in the state.
Uhhh. Summer Creek wants everyone to know that they were no fluke last season, reaching the State Final a year ago. Coach Kenny Harrison and company smashed our No. 2 Shadow Creek 42-0 in the opener. The Bulldogs move to our No. 3 spot from No. 6.
Katy was in a dog-fight with the Dickinson Gators, before pulling to a nice victory.
Much of the movement was in the bottom half of the Top 25 with Klein Cain, Magnolia, Cy Falls, Tompkins and Tomball all moving into the rankings.
Week 2 is just a few days away. Stay tuned.
