Super Tuesday Doesn't Disappoint
It was quite the spectacle on Tuesday night across the DFW hoops landscape as both the 6A and 5A defending state champions needed overtime to extend their respective seasons.
6A Recap
It came down to free throws in No. 1 Duncanville's (29-3) 66-65 victory over No. 9 Grand Prairie (27-3) to advance to the regional semifinals for the second straight year. Grand Prairie led for the majority of three quarters - including a 32-22 halftime lead - but only made six of its 15 free throw attempts in allowing Duncanville to force overtime.
Once there, the teams played relatively even, and with 3.6 seconds left Ja'Bryant Hill sank the go-ahead free throw to give Duncanville the win. The stars came out to play as well, with Micah Peavy recording a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards for Duncanville. Meanwhile, Grand Prairie's Jaylin Posey registered 28 points on the night.
Elsewhere in 6A:
No. 6 Richardson (35-3) blew right past No. 11 Waxahachie 79-58 and will meet No. 17 Odessa Permian (31-3) on Friday after just getting past Arlington Martin 44-43. Arlington Bowie (21-9) advanced to meet Duncanville on Friday after beating Wolfforth Frenship 65-55.

5A Recap
Mansfield Timberview missed a game-winning buzzer-beater at the end of regulation but were able to stymie Mansfield Legacay's offense in overtime on the way to a 41-40 win. No. 16 Timberview (27-8) led by four in the closing moments of overtime, but a 3-pointer by Legacy - it's only points of the extra period - trimmed things to one.
Timberview struggled to put the game away, missing four straight free throws, but Legacy could not get a game-winning shot off before the final buzzer. Timberview will meet No. 17 Wichita Falls Rider on Friday.
Elsewhere in 5A:
The undefeated quest for No. 6 Carrollton Newman Smith ended with a thud as No. 8 Dallas Kimball (31-6) jumped out to a 19-point first quarter lead and never looked back in a 101-73 win. 4A Recap
No. 8 Argyle (30-4) moved on the regional quarterfinals with a 45-35 win over district rival No. 11 Krum. Argyle built a big lead but had to withstand Krum's second half rally.
