VYPE U: Rev It Up- An Inside Look into TWCP's Drill Team
Friday night lights are quickly approaching and the Cavaliers are preparing for a victorious season. However, the football players are not the only ones preparing. The College Park High School drill team, the Reveliers, are looking forward to performing under the bright lights of Woodforest Stadium and dazzling their families and peers with their amazing routines this fall.
The award-winning Reveliers are directed under Ms. Alison Lowrey and assisted by Ms. Kaylee Trotter. This year the team is led by line officers Caitlin Harwood, Julia Stouffer, Marley Belk, Isabella Nicholls, Delaney Harvey, Lindsay Hollis, Codi Keng, and Emma Weixel. As well as social officers, Ellie Tuller, Lily Oleksy, Avery Cormier, Grace Fedorchak, Esmeralda Rodriguez, Sydney Scarbrough, Sofia Rosales, and Hillary Samford.
The girls have been preparing for football season since their successful contest season ended in late February. Many of their solo, ensemble, and group routines placed at contests. At their last competition of the season, they earned 5 banners- State Champion in Choreography, Judge's Award, two Technique awards, and an additional Choreography award. This was a great way for them to finish out their season.
"Last season, I was a part of the officer line. We performed jazz, modern, and lyrical dances together. We practiced every day after school for long durations so it was nice to see the progress from the beginning to the end of the competition season," lieutenant major, Julia Stouffer said.
Even though the team did not get to participate in their annual spring activities due to COVID-19, they were able to stay connected with one another by attending dance camp to learn their halftime routines on campus and on Zoom, hosting a virtual end of year banquet and a car parade for graduating seniors, and conducting tryouts and officer interviews virtually.
"During this time, the officer team has had to work very hard behind the scenes because we knew that our plans could change very quickly. We had to be prepared for everything," junior lieutenant, Delaney Harvey said.
With football season fast approaching in two weeks, the Revs are currently scheduled to dance at all College Park football games. They are making the most out of the situation by maintaining positive attitudes and are still bonding with the new members despite social distancing. They have been meeting every day before school at 6 AM to work on perfecting their routines. Starting next week, they will also attend after school practice with the band.
"This year for our halftime routines we will be performing a streamer jazz, which is a new routine for us this year. We will be dancing with streamers in our hands. We will also perform our jazz and military routines," major, Caitlin Harwood said.
The team is looking forward to showcasing all of their hard work and dedication to the school community. Even though they may be standing further apart from one another this year, that doesn't mean that their strong sisterly bonds will not shine from the stands. Spending hours with one another learning dances, participating in fun activities, and competing at contents comes with the benefit of many friendships and strong team unity.
"This organization is obviously a drill team, but it is so much more than dance. I am going to carry the lessons I learned in Revs for some many years to come and I know that I will remain friends with these girls for a very long time. That is something I am so thankful for," president, Ellie Tuller said.
You can catch the Reveliers dancing their spectacular halftime performances on the field at every TWCP football game this fall.
