THE POWER RANKINGS: #1 Vista Ridge edges #2 Vandegrift to hold Austin-area Girls top spot
The top 11 teams in this week’s Girls Power Rankings went a combined 19-1 this past week, the one loss hung on Vandegrift in a close game at top-ranked Vista Ridge. For now, that was enough for Round Rock to slip past the Lady Vipers to #2 despite an earlier loss to Vandy. Stay tuned for the rematches.
Otherwise, positions 4-10 remained unchanged since everyone else swept their weeks. Manor New Tech climbed a spot as the rest of the bottom third of the rankings all had bad weeks. That created an opening for 4A Wimberley to pop onto the charts replacing Crockett.
District play continues this week as we head towards Christmas!

THE POWER RANKINGS: Vista, Vandy and Round Rock remain atop Austin-area girls basketball poll
A week further into their seasons, the Girls teams played in a roughly 50-50 mix of district and tournament games this past week. Just as with the guys, District 25-6A remains atop the Power Rankings with Vista Ridge (14-3), Vandegrift (13-5) and Round Rock (15-2) sweeping their district opponents last week. (Despite Round Rock’s better overall record so far, both the Lady Rangers and Lady Vipers have edged the Lady Dragons in district.)
Liberty Hill (16-1) and Georgetown (15-3) are just off the podium after the Lady Panthers edged the Lady Eagles in the Gold Bracket championship game of the latter’s venerable Jack Frost Tournament. (#6 Glenn also went a perfect 5-0 in that tournament, playing in the Bronze bracket, possibly to avoid a clash with district foe Liberty Hill).
#7 Bastrop (20-2) was this week’s silver bullet, climbing four spots with a 5-1 tournament run in La Grange, while Westlake (11-6), Cedar Park (12-3) and Glenn (12-5) round out the Top 10.
Manor New Tech (15-1) went 3-1 in the Bruceville-Eddy Tournament to remain the top-ranked 4A club in the Rankings.
District play resumes this week as we head towards one last round of holiday tournaments after Christmas.
