PREVIEW: Weatherford hosts Crowley in first district matchup
The Weatherford Kangaroos have been working hard to put themselves on the map in the Texas High School Football scene. The Crowley Eagles have been dominating on the season so far. In their first district matchup, Weatherford hosts Crowley for a game no fan is going to want to miss. VYPE DFW dives into the two teams and what fans can expect:
Crowley Eagles (3-0)
An absolute force to be reckoned with this season, Crowley is on a mission to take down everyone in their path. Allowing only 27 points against them, the Eagles defense has shown tremendous talent so far in the 2023 season. With a 3-0 record to enter district play, Crowley defeated North Richland Hills Birdville (38-10), Mansfield Legacy (29-3), and Mansfield Summit (43-14) in non-district play.
Featuring athletes like Donovan Blake, Caleb Pope, Kadric Evans, Christian Blake, Priest Ashe, Curtis Johnson, Ashton Tanksley, Carlson Sherman, Jonathan Bell, and more, Crowley is dominant on the field and typically fast-paced. They will look to set the tone in Weatherford on Friday night.
Weatherford Kangaroos (2-1)
The Kangaroos bounced back last week after a 55-37 loss against Richardson JJ Pearce. In their final non-district matchup of the 2023 season, Weatherford toppled Burleson in a 35-21 victory. Returning home, the Kangaroos are fired up and ready to enter district play with a statement victory.
Shane Myers, Kaiden Axell, Brandon Hutto, James Gray, Gage Aleff, Gaberiel Nuncio, and Braden McMillan are just some of the athletes that Kangaroo fans should keep their eyes on in Friday night's showdown.
What To Expect
Last season, Crowley posted a 31-17 victory over the Weatherford Kangaroos. This season, they look to continue an undefeated streak with one of the hottest defenses in the area. This season, Weatherford is on a mission to remove the chip from their shoulder and battle back. This team shouldn't be taken lightly as they'll look to pull off big plays against Crowley.
Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Weatherford.
Friday Night Preview: Pearce travels to Weatherford for Week 2 Showdown
With week one victories in the rearview, Richardson's J.J. Pearce and Weatherford are bracing for a week two battle against each other. Both teams are looking to remain undefeated so far in the 2023-24 football season. VYPE DFW dives into the details:
Richardson J.J. Pearce Mustangs (1-0)
Last season, the Mustangs finished with a 4-6 overall record (4-4 in district play). Looking to get off to a better start this season, the team opened their schedule at home against Wylie where they recorded a close 35-32 victory. Showcasing their talent, drive, and determination, athletes like Ryan Williams, Ray Long, Jack McGarry, Aaron Berardinelli, Presley Harper, Parker Berry, George Fossey, Ryan Dodgen, Zach Simpson, and more have put in the work to be major playmakers this season. The team looks to continue their win-streak on Friday as they travel to Weatherford to take on the Kangaroos.
Weatherford Kangaroos (1-0)
The Weatherford Kangaroos posted a 7-3 overall record (4-3 in district play) last season. Without a playoff appearance, the Kangaroos have been fired up and working hard to get back on track this fall. Traveling to Keller last week, Weatherford posted a convincing 44-19 victory over Keller Central. Geared up for action, athletes like Xavier Holder, Fabian Busane, Asa Dowling, Keats Bohannon, Micah Moore, Samuel Roderick, Bruin Wright, Wyatt Reeves, Peyton Middleton, CJ Thornton, Andrew Groh, William Jordan, Auston Young, and more are ready to bring the heat against Pearce this Friday.
What To Expect
In a revenge match from last season's week two showdown in which Weatherford posted a 41-31 victory over Pearce, the Mustangs are looking to put a stop to the Kangaroo's dominant-style of play. Pearce's defense is going to have to make big plays against Weatherford's offensive effort if they want to pull off a victory in week two this season. Weatherford, showing their ability to easily move the ball through the air as well as rush for gains, has what it takes to pull away quickly if the Mustangs are unable to shut them down quickly.
Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Kangaroo Stadium.
