Our countdown continues here at VYPE DFW with our Top 10 Moments of the 2018-19 season. While I personally was not a contributor to the VYPE team, the importance - in my mind - is no less significant.
Adoette Vaughan Wins 4th Straight SPC Title
Whether in a team sport or individual competition, it's hard - at any level - to win a championship. Athletes train and practice, battle, sweat and compete - rinse and repeat - and still it's no certainty a title will manifest.
Unless your name is Adoette Vaughan, cross country runner at Hockaday.
Throughout all of her high school years, Vaughan took home individual Southwest Preparatory Conference state crowns - a quadfecta. Vaughan became the first girls cross country runner to win four straight, besting the three-peat set from 2007-09 by Greenhill's Chelsey Sveinsson.
Vaughan ran the five kilometers in 17:25.8 to capture the 2018 title. She beat Greenhill's Maddie Hatfield by a minute and 22 seconds. The 2018 pace was more than 30 seconds faster than her 2017 pace and almost tied her 2018 season best of 17:58.5.
Vaughan signed to continue her cross country career at the University of Arkansas, according to Hockaday's alumnae athlete website.
