TWCA goes 3-1 in VYPE-Aldine ISD Holiday Hoops Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps
In a weekend where it was public versus private school teams at times, The Woodlands Christian Academy hung with some of the best in Houston.
The Warriors went an impressive 3-1 in the two-day tournament with its lone loss coming against Cy-Fair in the boys championship game of the 2019 VYPE-Aldine ISD Holiday Hoops Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps.
The Woodlands Christian Academy registered wins in the opening day over MacArthur (70-57) and Eisenhower (64-59) to move to 16-5 on the year. Then the Warriors started Saturday with their biggest win of the weekend over Katy Tompkins in an overtime victory.
With the 69-66 overtime victory, it pushed the Warriors to 17-6 on the season and also gave Tanner Field his 100th career coaching victory at TWCA in just his fourth season leading the program. After that win, TWCA went into the championship game of the tournament but fell short to Cy-Fair.
Bakari LaStrap (20.7 points per game) and Austin Benigni (16 points per game) both played big throughout the tournament, each averaging double digits in points scored. Tucker Nooe was impressive defensively being a force down in the paint that many teams didn't test driving in against him. Emmanuel Jones was another top player for TWCA during the weekend.
