Welcome back to another ATX/SATX edition of Team of the Week. Each week we take a look at a team from across the San Antonio/Austin area and surrounding areas that impressed us for one reason or another.
This weeks team needs no introduction. With another undefeated season under their belt, the team of the week is Westlake's Football team.
Westlake has not only won 3 straight UIL State Championships, and are currently on a quest for 4 straight, but they are also on a 50 game winning streak. They are under both a new quarterback and Head Coach after Cade Klubnik graduated and Todd Dodge retired.
In their place is longtime defensive coordinator Tony Salazar and junior quarterback Paxton Land. Salazar has stepped right into the Head Coaching seat without missing a beat and has his defense picking up right where it left off last season. In fact it's hard to argue that his defense was crucial to the undefeated season while his offense found its legs earlier in the season. And against opponents like Dripping Springs and Lake Travis the defense stood up in big moments to help secure wins.
On the offensive side, Paxton Land has settled into the QB position with over 1,200 yards on the year. Helping him along the way? Arguably two of the best Wide Receivers in the state in seniors Jaden Greathouse and Keaton Kubecka.
Westlake heads into the Division 1 bracket in 6A and begins its quest for a 4-peat this Thursday against Cedar Ridge.
