Michelle Hyden enters her second year of leading the Pearland Lady Oilers program. Last year, the Lady Oilers went 34-6 overall and reached the Regional Quarterfinals.
Pearland returns six starters off that squad including Texas State-commit Payton Shugart who hit .491 and made All-State a year ago. Kaylee Schweitzer (University of TexasArlington-commit) hit .406 and was a TGCA All-Star, while UCF-commit Layla Bennett hit .440 and was an All-State pick. They look to build off those seasons in 2025.
Other key returners include Kailey Monsef (.343, University of Louisiana-Monroe-commit), Laila Nobles (University of North Texas-commit), Jordan Smith (University of Texas-Arlingtonsignee) and McKenna Bennett.
It wasn’t that long ago that Pearland hoisted the ultimate prize. A handful of these Lady Oilers had a role in that, now they will try and springboard their experience to another run at a title in 2025.

When it comes to dynasties in Texas high school softball, the Liberty Panthers make a great argument to be considered. Karen Slack’s program has gone to the Class 4A State Tournament each of the last four seasons.
In that span the Panthers claimed the Class 4A State Championship twice, winning it in 2021 and 2022. Since 2018, Liberty has claimed three state titles. With nine starters returning, Slack – who enters her 21st year of leading Liberty with 434 career wins – has a solid lineup to roll out in 2025.
The Panthers will be led by McNeese State-commit Brookelyn Taylor, who was the District 19-4A MVP a year ago. The Panthers also return District 19-4A Offensive MVP Bayleigh Taylor and first-team, all-state picks Kylee Bishop (UL-Monroe-commit), Abby Vickers (UT Tyler-commit), and Bryana Pantalion (Southeastern Louisiana-commit).
Also, watch out for LSU-Alexandria-commit Marina Bourgeios and Abbie Key. After falling short in the Class 4A State TItle game a year ago, Slack’s team motto for 2025 is an easy one – “FINISH IT”.
