VYPE U: Timberwolves Down Bastrop Cedar Creek 51-43 Behind a Trio of Upperclassman
The Cedar Park Boys Basketball team advanced to Round 2 of the playoffs on Feb. 24 after defeating the 14-17 Cedar Creek Eagles by a score of 51-43 in Georgetown, Texas. The Timberwolves were led by seniors Jacob Hester, Matthew Minor, and Luke Ferguson, who all filled the stat sheet one way or another. Minor, standing at 6'5", paved the way to victory posting a double-double, finishing his night with 18 points and an astonishing 12 rebounds. Hester ended his night scoring in double-figures and tallying 4 assists and a game-high 4 steals, with Ferguson racking up a handful of lay-ups and grabbed a solid 10 misses for the Wolves of Cedar Park. The Eagles were led by junior star Cory Canada who capped his night off with 13 points, and Texas Football commit Alfred Collins who dropped 11 and gathered 10 boards.
The Eagles started the game off hot and aggressive, taking the first half by a score of 26-17 after outscoring the Wolves 15-7 in the 2nd quarter behind Canada and Collins, but Minor and the Wolves responded in the second half by dropping 17 in the 3rd with Cedar Creek scoring just 7. And although Canada and Collins were hot, the two both fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter, leaving the Eagles without their two star players for the remainder of the game. Head Coach Blake Brown then exploited the weakened Cedar Creek team once again in the 4th, with his team outscoring the Eagles 17-10 leading to a final score of 51-43 in favor of the T-Wolves.
This is Browns 2nd consecutive year coaching Cedar Park past Round 1 of the playoffs. Unfortunately, Cedar Park came up short in their second round match-up against Lake Creek on February 28, 52-44.
