Junior quarterback Miles Teodecki threw three first half touchdowns in his varsity debut and senior running back Brendan Fournier added a 52-yard scoring scamper as Vandegrift opened the season with an impressive 31-14 win over Dripping Springs in the VYPE Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week.
Vandegrift dominated early as Teodecki (19-26, 227 yds., 3 TDs) connected on a 34-yard pass to George Farley and a 50-yard strike to Brock Chilton to stake the Vipers to a 14-0 first quarter lead. Gavin Koester hauled in a 14-yard TD pass on their fourth drive to up the lead to 21-0.
Meanwhile, the Viper defense, led by Ian Witt and Daeshon Morgan, smothered a potent Tigers offense, notching four consecutive 3-and-outs before senior quarterback Maddox Maher hit Reid Cooper in-stride for a 27-yard strike to put Dripping Springs on the board. Fournier’s run combined with Wiley Olsen’s 29-yard field goal following a Viper fumble recovery sent the Vipers into the locker room up 31-7.
Maddox capped off an impressive third quart drive with a 1-yard sneak to close out the scoring as the teams largely battled to a second half stalemate.
Vandegrift (1-0) takes on their oldest rival Cedar Park Friday night (9/6) at Gupton Stadium while Dripping Springs (0-1) hosts Wagner in their home opener.
