MUSTANGS PRIDE: The Back-To-Back District Champs Are Coming For It All In 2025
Before being named the official head coach last May, interim coach and Kingwood alumnus Michael Oros led the Mustangs to a continued sense of success, guiding them to their second consecutive district championship in 2024.
While their playoff run ended in the second round against Clear Springs, it serves as a solid foundation for Oros and his team to build on this spring.
To extend their dominance, the Mustangs will rely on a stifling pitching staff, led by senior right-hander Ben Mayorga and junior Will Fiedler. Mayorga, a LeTourneau University commit, posted a 7-2 record and a 1.95 ERA, while Fiedler was just as effective, finishing 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA. Both earned first-team, all-district honors. Offensively, Kingwood boasts second-team all-district selections Caden Callaway (Sr. IF/Cornell) and Brian Schumacher (Sr. OF/Panola JC), both of whom hit over .300 last season.
The lineup is further strengthened by Baylor-commit Graham Charboneau (Jr. OF/UTL). With a talented and experienced roster, the Mustangs are primed to challenge for a third consecutive district title and a potentially lengthy playoff run. Fun Fact: This June will mark the 20th anniversary of Kingwood’s 2005 State Championship, when they defeated Rockwall 10-5 at Dell Diamond.
