Cory Benavidas enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Mustangs, and he hasn’t missed the postseason yet. Friendswood reached the Regional Finals in 2021 with a 33-3 record and have no plans of slowing down until they win a Class 5A title.
It was their first return to the Regional Finals in 11 years and crushed their district with an 18-0 record.
Pick your poison with Friendswood, which brings back eight starters. If it’s pitching you want, Jacob Rogers is the ace and will play his college ball at Texas Tech. Griffon Kasemeyer and Easton Tumis (Houston) are also stud arms.
Behind the plate is fellow Red Raider-signee Dylan Maxcey, the District’s Defensive MVP and school record-holder for RBIs. Holding down first base and a beast at the plate is Boots Landry, a future Texas A&M Aggie.
Others to look out for included Mason Munz, Reed South (infield), Ty Brantley (outfield), Collin Goolsby, Dane Perry and Ray Vazquez.
“We just need to keep our heads down and do the little things consistently,” Benavidas said. Nothing short of a State appearance will be acceptable inside the stable in 2022.
