AT THE RIM: Waxahachie, Nunn looking for more in 2025

Waxahachie Indians

Head Coach: Corey Johnson

District 11-6A

Waxahachie is coming into the 2024-25 season seeking a deep run in the playoffs after reaching the third round a year ago. The Indians posted a 23-12 overall record and went 12-2 in district play to be crowned district co-champions.

Corey Johnson enters his third season of leading Waxahachie and returns two starters to the huddle.

A pair of 2026 guards will headline the Indians this year as Tray Nunn (11.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.7 apg) and Michael Gatewood (7.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.9 apg) will be the leaders on the court in 24-25. Nunn was a first-team, all-district pick a year ago, while Gatewood earned District Newcomer of the Year honors. Also, watch out for 2027 guard Jonathan Bradley to play a key role.

Keys to success for Johnson’s squad include playing with tempo and a defensive intensity.
