Texas A&M and new head coach Mike Elko have hit the ground running on the recruiting trail, picking up big-time commits from the Dallas and Houston area.
Today, the Aggies make another huge addition to their 2025 class, with the commitment of Shadow Creek 2025 4-star defensive back Cobey Sellers.
Sellers picked the Aggies over Texas and Oklahoma. VYPE’s Jackson DiPasquale caught up with the new Aggie commit about the decision, his senior year and more!
The commitment to Texas A&M came down to three things for Sellers, the consistency with the staff, the distance from home and how the Aggies plan to use the talented DB.
Consistency with the Staff
“The consistency with Coach Peterson really made me feel like this was home,” he said. “We had been talking since he was at Kansas and even though he knew I wasn’t going to go there he still showed he wanted me and that played a factor when he moved to A&M.”
Location
“When I went up to college Station it just felt right. It was only an hour, hour and 30 minutes from my house which is a big deal to have my family come to every home game.”
Plan For Future
“Coach Elko and Coach Bateman actually showed me how they used me. They also have corners already there that resemble how I play and want to be built when I get to college.”
Sellers also mentioned the culture change that he has seen with the Aggies since Coach Elko has arrived at campus and being able to play in the SEC with defensive minds like Bateman and Elko.
“Coach Elko is going in there and setting rules and standards that will help a team win and be successful,” he said. “I want to be apart of a program like that.”
“The SEC is the closest thing to the NFL without being in the NFL, it doesn’t get more physical than the SEC. I feel like going to A&M with Coach Elko and Coach Bateman, they run their defense like an NFL defense which will prepare me for the next level.”
Now committed before for his senior year, Sellers is focused on helping Shadow Creek get back to the State Championship.
“It’s big because I’m coming back from an injury from last year,” Sellers said. “Knowing where I am going is huge because now I’m focused on making it to State and winning a State Championship for Shadow Creek.”
