It's time for the regional semifinals in the Texas high school volleyball playoffs. As area teams gear up to face each other, VYPE DFW is taking a look at some squads fans should keep their eyes peeled on. Flower Mound and Keller are two teams set to face off on Friday for an intense battle. We dive into what fans can expect below:
Flower Mound Jaguars (33-7, 12-2)
Opening their season with a statement sweep over Allen, the Lady Jaguars knew they had what it takes to be great from an early start this season. Through non-district play, the team battled against tough opponents like Denton Guyer, McKinney North, Denton Braswell, V.R. Eaton, Argyle, and more for several huge victories-- dropping only 5 non-district matches against opponents.
Led by Catherine Young, Caroline Tredwell, Liz Goodspeed, Brianna Watson, Emerson Dement, and other incredible athletes, this team showed up and showed out through district play as they recorded several strong victories including those over Lewisville, Hebron, Plano, and Coppell to finish at the first-place spot in their district. Heading into the playoffs has proven to be no trouble for Flower Mound as they have shut out all three of their opponents in the playoffs (McKinney, J.J. Pearce, and Lake Highlands). The team looks to continue their hot streak on Friday night.
Keller Indians (26-13, 8-4)
With strong outings and battles through non-district play, the Keller Indians posted several strong wins against tough opponents like Aledo, Grapevine, Wylie, Justin Northwest, Colleyville Heritage, Cinco Ranch, and more in preparation for their district schedule. As the team pushed through, the recorded an 18-9 record before entering district play. Knowing they had to work hard to continue their excellence, the Lady Indians embraced every challenge that came their way.
Facing a tough district schedule, Keller defeated Timber Creek, Keller Central, Fossil Ridge, and more while athletes like Reagan Sharp, Carley Wright, Anna Boatner, Anna Flores, Sydney Clark, Carrie Prewitt, and others showcased tremendous talent and resilience on the court. The team finished third in their district standings before entering the playoffs with a drive to succeed. So far through playoffs, the team has defeated Chisholm Trail, Eastwood, and Byron Nelson. They look to continue setting the tone on Friday night.
What To Expect
Both teams are incredible with on-court presence. Trained to be focused and tough by their coaches, these teams aren't going to give up without a fight. Fans can expect both teams to come out ready to give it their all as they face each other on the court. Expect this match-up to be high-energy!
The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City.
