PREVIEW: Frisco Lone Star Rangers Hunting for a Repeat

With a nearly undefeated season last year, the Frisco Lone Star Rangers entered the program's first-ever state tournament appearance and capped the year off with a crown! As the team looks toward repeating, VYPE DFW takes a look into what fans can expect from the Rangers this season!

Rewind

Last season, the Rangers posted a 93% winning percentage with a 24-1-2 overall record after outscoring their opponents by a combined 95-19 goals. Beginning their season with six non-district victories, the Rangers showed their dominance against Mesquite (3-1), Dallas Hillcrest (2-0), Burleson Centennial (5-0), Lancaster (12-0), and more before entering district play. Throughout district play, Lone Star faced off against pretty tough opponents and continued to showcase their strength game after game. Defeating Carrollton Creekview (3-0), Frisco (3-2), Carrollton Newman Smith (3-0), The Colony (5-0), and more, the team finished their district standings in first place with an 11-1-2 record.

Their two draws and one loss didn't put any doubt in their mind as they entered the playoffs. Secure in their footing and focused on the prize, the team took it moment by moment on the field as they showcased their resiliency and desire to continue a win streak through the state finals.

In the playoffs, the Rangers showed no mercy as they defeated Frisco Memorial (3-0), Dallas Adams (7-0), Frisco Heritage (3-2), Forney (2-1), McKinney North (2-1), Pflugerville Connally (3-0), and eventually Bel Air (4-1) for the program's first-ever state title.

This Season

Graduating many seniors last season, the team has the potential to have quite the rebuilding year ahead of them. Despite being a young team, fans can expect this squad to put forth the same amount of effort as last year with a desire to secure several strong victories. Athletes like Nikita Sugrobov, Sawyer Solecki, Malik Hamzeh, Ryan Bednar, Ben Villenauve, Tucker Eason, Liam Rutledge, Jamin Samons, Jose Hernandez, Jacob Bicoll, Lawrence Lee, Jackson Burn, and others return to the field looking to defend their title and put on a show for their fans throughout the season.

Opening their schedule following the holiday break, the Rangers will begin play against El Dorado before continuing their non-district matchups against the likes of Plano West, Dripping Springs, Garland, and more. From there, the team is set for another district season against Carrollton Creekview, Frisco, Frisco Wakeland, Frisco Reedy, and more. Catch the Rangers in action as they look to punch their ticket to another state tournament appearance.
