John Cooper's Peterson picks up Power 5 offer...and guitar
Jake Peterson is putting The John Cooper School on the recruiting radar.
The 6-foot-2 all-SPC linebacker picked up a Power 5 offer from Syracuse University over the weekend, sending a social media wave through the north Houston private school channels.
"I really wasn't hearing much from them and then got a Twitter follow from one of their coaches," he said. "I hopped on the phone with them and they offered. I was really excited and I have genuine interest in Syracuse. It looks like a great fit."
Peterson also played full-back and short-yardage QB for the Dragons, who have been to back-to-back SPC DII title games. He also starred on the baseball team.
"I think in Syracuse's defense, I would be a hybrid inside-outside linebacker. I have good speed and will getting bigger over the summer to run inside as well. I might play a little summer baseball if the season makes, but I'm really focused on football."
Well, mostly focused…
"I picked up the guitar about eight months ago," he laughed. "I'm not that good but love to play. The real reason was to play at camp fires and pick up girls."
When not picking the six-string, Peterson will be working out at his house with his father.
"We have a weight room and we are staying busy," he said. "I'm not going to let this quarantine affect the progress and momentum I've built."
