It may only be Week 1 in the 2019 high school football season, but fans will already have an opportunity to see some elite football when the Westgate Tigers travel to the Lafayette Christian Knights at 7 p.m. Friday.
The two programs have become recruiting hotbeds for college coaches.
Between the two teams, there are 10 players who have either committed to and/or have offers from Division I programs and another 20 to 25 with offers from a mix group of Division II, III or NAIA schools.
"It's a testament to what both programs do," Tigers head coach Ryan Antoine said. "Every camp we go to, we see LCA guys there."
But that's about where the similarities end.
Westgate, a public school in Class 4A, is still in search of its first football state championship.
LCA, a private school that just moved up to Class 2A this season, is fresh off of back-to-back Division IV state titles.
