It has been a good start for Lufkin girls basketball to the 2019-2020 season.
Last weekend, Lufkin rattled off a pair of wins to close out the Hudson Invitational with a 4-1 record for the weekend. The final two wins came against Dayton (38-29) and Hudson (55-36).
For the week, Lufkin coach Sadale Lamb nominated Dayshia Runnels for the player of the week honors.
"She is the heart of the team," Lamb said. "Her work ethic and determination on defense helps us to set the tone and tempo. Dayshia gives it all she has and some! At 5'3 she's our teams leading defensive rebounder, she's going to find the ball! If it's a loose ball, she's going to get it. If she has to get on the floor, she's going to get it. A true competitor."
Lufkin will continue to be a team to watch throughout the 2019-2020 season.
