PEARL — The tradition continues.
By taking advantage of opportunities and the pitching of Gabe Moore, DeSoto Central was able to get past St. Martin 5-0 to claim the MHSAA Class 6A Baseball State Championship for the second straight here on Friday night at Trustmark Park. It is the Jaguars (34-3) third state title in school history and third in the last five seasons.
"This group set a goal at the beginning of the year to win it and to see it work out is an amazing feeling," said DeSoto Central coach Mark Monaghan. "Pitchers did a good job of getting out of jams all game. At this point it all comes back to just competing and that's what they did even when they don't look their best."
