THE PROSPECTUS

Navasota Rattlers

Navasota had a strong 2018 season which resulted in a co-District 12-4A-DI Championship, finishing with an overall record of 6-6 and going 5-1 in district. Casey Dacus is looking to make 2019 the program's third-straight district title with 12 starters returning. The Rattlers are expected to remain at an elite level in the upcoming season with QB Zach Dyer (1,088 passing yards, 14 passing TDs, five rushing TDs), CB/WR La'Darrin Thomas (684 receiving yards, eight receiving TDs), Texas A&M-commit Jordan Jefferson (OL) and S/WR Keith Steptoe (62 tackles, 2 def TDs) returning to lead the way for the Rattlers. The Rattlers have a talented and experienced team with the expectation to win their third straight district championship.

Stafford Spartans

Stafford had a solid 2018 season finishing with an overall record of 4-6 and a 3-3 record in district. Head coach Ken Savanah is looking for his Spartans to take the next steps and make the playoffs after missing the postseason last year by one game. The Spartans have 13 starters returning, including star players QB Cameron Peters (1,824 passing yards, 18 passing TDs) and DE Robert Wooten (79 tackles, 12 sacks). Peters is a UTSA-commit who has moved in from Dulles, while Wooten who has recently committed to Missouri. The Spartans are a lock for the postseason and could challenge for a district title. But it's about the postseason run as Stafford looks to make some history and reach the state semis.

Wheatley Wildcats

The Wheatley Wildcats finished last season as co-district champions with an overall record of 7-3 and going 5-1 in district. Coach Cornelius McFarland is heading into the 2019 season with 12 starters returning to defend their title. Talented running back Trevon Neal (879 rushing yards, nine rushing TDs), two-way star athlete RB/LB Mike Buchanan (6-foot-2, 220-pounds), and outstanding edge rusher LB Colbi Clark (seven sacks, team leader) will be heavily relied upon this season to capture the belt again.

Furr Brahmas

The Brahmas are heading into the 2019 season looking to take another step towards becoming district champions after finishing runner-up with an overall record of 7-4 and a district mark of 4-2. Coach Cornell Gray is going into his 16th season with Houston Furr and has 13 starters returning. Among the returning starters are Furr's two outstanding defensive playmakers – Kevin Gomez (67 tackles) and Justin Lewis (39 tackles, 10 TFL, four sacks). Their two-way, all-district athlete WR/DB Lance Clark (442 receiving yards, six receiving TDs, four INTs, four blocked kicks) also returns. Furr has experience and a salty defense, which usually makes for a successful season. Can they capture its first district championship since 2007?

North Forest Bulldogs

The Bulldogs struggled early in the 2018 season but was able to turn it around and finished fourth in district. Coach Clifton Terrell and the Bulldogs are looking to carry the momentum from the end of season into the fall. The Bulldogs have an anchor to their offense in OL Demond Woods, who will help lead that unit with seven returners back. The Bulldogs will have to find a replacement for super WR Demond Demas, who transferred in the spring. Other starters returning with Woods are WR Dexter Williams (655 receiving yards, four receiving TDs) and speedster running back John Washington. Terrell and the Bulldogs expect to light up the scoreboard and keep defenses on their toes in the2019 season

The Yates Lions

Jack Yates Lions

The Jack Yates Lions finished their 2018 season with an overall record of 0-10. The Lions are currently going through a rebuilding phrase with the hiring of Michael Hickey, who was on Kenny Harrison's staff last season at Summer Creek High School. The Lions are a young and talented team that has 14 starters returning. QB Dominick Brown, DT Devin Price and FBS-prospect Darryl Brown will play a significant role in assisting Hickey bring back the Yates' football glory days and winning the Lions' 32nd district championship.

Worthing Colts

The Colts struggled last season, finishing 3-6 and a district record of 1-5. Head coach Brandon Ellis looks to change that narrative in the 2019. The Colts have speedsters in QB Jackson Harris, RB Kendrick Jefferson and RB/LB Malik Stephens, who each run a sub-4.5 40-yard dash. But the biggest question marks come in the size and depth of the team. Ellis is heading into his 10th season with the Colts and is hoping to use the team's speed to turn the program around in 2019.
