With Nederland having already clinched a playoff berth with last weeks win over Vidor, the sole question remains which final team in District 12-5A gets in? Nederland is fighting for the all-important number two seed and are currently tied with cross-town rival Port Neches-Groves, who they take on next week.
Crosby, Vidor, and Baytown Lee are all in playoff mode and whoever can go 2-0 over the next 9 days will see the postseason.
Nederland has the number three offense and the number four defense in the district and are led by top QB Bryce McMorris and WR Kyndon Fuselier. McMorris leads the district in passing at 1,598 yards and Fuselier is the leader in both receptions (39) and yards (675).
"Our last four games have been against playoff caliber teams," said Nederland head coach Monte Barrow.
"So we've been in the (playoff) mindset for some time now which should help us moving forward. It starts up front for us."
Along with the McMorris-to-Fuselier passing tandem, the Bulldogs also have a true playmaker in running back Josh Mazyck who is third in rush yards (645) and seventh in receiving (191). Mazyck will be the wildcard coming into Friday nights game with multiple options coming with the talented junior.
"Josh can hit the home run," said Barrow, into his third season at Nederland.
"It starts for us up front. Crosby does a lot of movement up front, they put more guys in the box to stop the run, so it will be a challenge for us to make sure we take care of our responsibilities."
A win by Nederland will drop Crosby into a tie for fourth place with either Vidor (2-4) or Baytown Lee (2-4) who play each other Friday night in Vidor.
