SETX Recruit Scoop: Jaylon Guilbeau, Port Arthur Memorial

Jaylon Guilbeau (pronounced 'Gil-bo') has quickly established himself as a bona fide lockdown corner who has the size 6'0"/185 lbs to compete in the Power 5. A two-sport athlete who also excels in track (400 meters, 800 meters), Guilbeau was voted first team all-district last year for the Titans.

Guilbeau will be challenged this fall as Port Arthur Memorial joins Friendswood, Beaumont United, and Baytown ISD in new District 9-5A (D1).

VYPE caught up with Guilbeau and asked him his thoughts on his upcoming season, leadership, and what the PAM fans can expect for the 2020 season.

...

VYPE: You're ranked as the #9 ranked CB in the nation at your position. What are some weaknesses that you plan to work on coming into your junior season this fall?

Guilbeau: I plan on working on my technique more and getting my hips right.

...

VYPE: PAM joins a new district this coming season with a host of quality programs such as Friendswood, Baytown ISD, and Beaumont United. What will the Titans need to accomplish for a significant playoff run?

Guilbeau: We will need hard work and dedication on and off the field in order to win football game. That's the most important thing. Also we have to be physical and listen to our coaches.

...

VYPE: You're a very physical cornerback at 6'0", 185 lbs. What skills do you bring to the table that separates you from other elite CB's?

Guilbeau: What separates me is I work harder than most kids do. Even when I'm not doing anything, I'm either doing push ups or in the weight room getting stronger! I also train with Rokaine when I'm not on the field either. I feel like I separate my self more than any kid.

...

VYPE: You were voted 1st team all-district last year as a sophomore. What personal goals (tackles, ints, etc.) do you want to set for yourself heading into the 2020 season?

Guilbeau: This year for my junior season I want to have 5 to 6 picks and I also want more tackles than I had last year.

...

VYPE: As an incoming junior you will be looked at as a leader for the Titans this year. What, in your opinion, makes a great leader and what type of leader do you want to be this year working with reserve players?

Guilbeau: As a leader I want my teammates to be working hard when we're all in the gym. I'm also going to stay on my team because we need to win football games. Without a leader a football team can't go anywhere. To be a great leader I have to do things right and don't take off of anything. Being a team leader means a lot because people have eyes on yo u.

...

VYPE: What are you doing as an athlete to stay in shape during this period of isolation with the coronavirus?

Guilbeau: As an athlete I'm running in my neighborhood and doing push ups and sit ups at home since I can't go to the gym. That's the way I'm staying toned up! When the gyms open back up I'm back on my routine.
