KATY TOMPKINS ADVANCED TO THE UIL STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT A YEAR AGO, AFTER WRAPPING UP THE REGION III-6A CHAMPIONSHIP OVER DISTRICT RIVAL CINCO RANCH. THE DISTRICT 19-6A SHOWDOWNS THIS YEAR WILL BE FUN BETWEEN THOSE TWO SQUADS.
Gone off last year’s State Semifinalist squad is Cindy Tchouangwa, who is at Rice University.
Back for Allison Merrell’s squad is daughter Brooklynn Merrell, who led the team with 680 digs a year ago and a team-leading 104 service aces. Expect for her to have a big junior season.
Skylar Skrabanek will be looked towards to provide the offensive firepower after registering 325 kills a year ago. She will also be a factor on defense after registering 457 digs in 2022.
Callie Funk (101 kills, 53 blocks) and Christin Cowart (95 kills) will also be looked towards to produce. Erica Dellesky and Kaelyn Dumas will do most of the setting.
Tompkins could be a viable threat once again in 2023 with this experience back on the roster.
