For the first time in over a decade, the Mustangs have advanced to Round 2 of the postseason. Lamar Consolidated last moved on in 2007, when they won the football state championship in Class 4A.
Lindale scored almost immediately in the first quarter. Lamar Consolidated got on the board shortly after Lindale with a touchdown from sophomore Rayshawn Glover with 6:06 left to go.
The Lindale Eagles led the Mustangs through the first, second and third quarter. Late in the fourth quarter, the score was 43-41 with Lamar Consolidated trailing Lindale by just two points.
In a shocking turn of events, the Mustangs scored a game winning touchdown with just 35 seconds left on the clock and kicker Jose Ortiz made the extra point to put the Mustangs on top.
In the thriller of a game at Traylor Stadium, Lamar Consolidated won and sent the Lindale Eagles packing with a final score of 48-43.
On Friday, Lamar Consolidated (9-2) will host the perfect Manvel Mavericks (11-0) in the area round of Conference 5A Division II Playoffs.
