VYPE caught up with Katy Janes (member of the 2019 4A All-State Team and 4A State Tournament MVP), pitcher for the Huffman-Hargrave softball team, for a quick Q&A.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for this season?
Katy: My biggest personal goal this season is to make the most of every last moment I get to spend on the field with my friends and hopefully take another trip to Austin!
VYPE: Describe the most disappointing event of your athletic career?
Katy: I'm not sure if I could pick one disappointing moment to be the most disappointing event of my career so far. Ultimately, there have been plenty of moments where I felt like I let my teammates down- like striking out with runners on, giving up a hit in a close game, or even just not picking them up when they get down. But this game is full of failures and it's about who bounces back and makes the most of their next opportunity.
VYPE: What was the most fulfilling moment of your athletic career?
Katy: The most fulfilling moment of my athletic career would have to be my signing day. Just knowing that everything I worked for since I was a little girl had finally paid off was the best feeling in the world! I had all of my friends and family there to support me and it was one of the best days of my life!
VYPE: What makes softball such a great game in your opinion?
Katy: Softball is such an amazing game because it resembles life in so many ways. There's highs and lows and everywhere in between, but you're expected to stay just as positive and work just as hard no matter where you're at in that cycle. In this game I've met some of my best friends and made the best memories, and that's something I will forever be thankful for.
VYPE: What do you want to accomplish on/off the field at the next level?
Katy: At the next level I want to strive to be my personal best every time I step on the field and get better everyday. I want to help HBU win a conference championship and maybe even make it as an All-American by the time I'm done there. Ultimately, my main goal is to get an amazing education that can carry me through the rest of my life.
