Yates Looking to Break Own Record

* By VYPE Hoops Insider Ray Meach*

The Yates Lions are on pace for yet another record breaking season. The magic number is 16. That means the Lions need 6 more century mark games to break their own national record for the longest streak of scoring 100 points per contest. RCS Sports and Houston basketball buff Jim Hicks announced last week that previous record of 15 games was held by 2009-10 class for the Lions.

As of today, Yates has 10 games in a row of scoring a minimum of 100 points. Yates has already made it through by the first round of district play and if history indeed repeats, then Third Ward High will have their names etched in stone yet again. The addition of 6'10 Chuks Isitua and Allen Udemadi in late December have bolstered the already powerful group. Senior guards and returning starters Rubin Jones and Antwon Norman provide the senior leadership that it takes to win games and go deep while Elijah Elliot and Latrell Moore provide the muscle. The Lions have so many weapons that teams have to pick their poison, but in a system where their defense is their offense, you could find yourself being down big before the end of the first quarter. That is why they are the favorite to bring home yet another state championship in the 2020 season.

Keep an eye on Yates as their season continues tomorrow against North Forest.
