What a year 2020 was and could have been in the playoffs for the Southwest Dragon's soccer team. Coming off a 21-0 season and returning 8 starters, the Dragons will certainly be breathing fire!
The momentum from 2020 is expected to continue for this stellar team as we begin the 2021 season. With the hopes that COVID-19 can stay at bay and allow sports to continue, we should expect big things again this year. With a stacked preseason scrimmage lineup, the Dragons only dropped one- to #1 LEE High School.
Head Coach Roberto Jaramillo is excited for the season, and said the success will if the team can, "continue the defensive play that recorded 15 clean sheets in 21 games last season."
With last year's district Goalkeeper of Year, Jose Robles returning for the Dragons, we can anticipate some big stops! First team all district members Julian Leon, and Seferino Romo will be returning as well to help Southwest continue the roll. Coach tells us to watch for Gabriel Soliz to make his mark as well this season! Many juniors on the team this year, with another year of experience under their belt, and full of energy we can expect great things from the 5A District Champions.
