VYPE Senior Spotlight presented by CertaPro Painters: Tomball's Priscella Caruso
Tomball has consistently been a power in girls soccer in the city over the past few years.
This season was no different.
The Cougars were eyeing a playoff spot, sitting at 14-2-1 in District 20-5A play, which would have earned them the No. 2 seed heading into the postseason. One of the big players for Tomball this year was senior goalkeeper Priscella Caruso.
Caruso is signed with McMurry University. VYPE caught up with her recently to be a part of the continuing VYPE Senior Spotlight series. This installment is presented by CertaPro Painters.
VYPE: What has this time been like for you being away from the field and your team?
Caruso: "It has been very hard, I used to spend multiple hours of every day with my team to not seeing them at all. They are like my second family. And not to mention soccer is my life and being away from the field and my team shows me how much I can't take that time for granted."
VYPE: What have you been doing to stay sharp for not only when this season returns but also for college soccer next fall?
Caruso: "I have been running every day and doing specialized workouts that I have gotten from my college coach."
VYPE: You signed with McMurry University, what made that the place for you? Also, with everything that has happened how blessed do you feel to have gotten that out of the way?
Caruso: "When I visited McMurry I almost instantly knew it was the one. I loved the girls, the coach, and the overall environment. The team was so welcoming and I loved what the coach was doing with the program. When my family was touring the school my dad started to get emotional that I was leaving and he never did that at any of the other schools we have been to. From that moment I knew it was the one. I'm so thankful that they gave me the chance to play there, especially during this time of crisis."
VYPE: What's been your favorite memory at Tomball High School?
Caruso: "This question is hard because I have so many. But I would have to say that one of my favorites is when we go to playoffs and we bring the speaker on the bus and blast No Hands. Nothing beats screaming every word at the top of lungs after we won a game."
VYPE: What's your favorite soccer story to tell people?
Caruso: "My favorite soccer story to tell people is when I was younger playing 8v8, I punted the soccer ball playing goalkeeper and I ended up scoring. We won the game 1-0. That was my first goal."
VYPE: What have you been doing during this time at home? What have you been watching on TV?
Caruso: "I have been spending a lot of time with my family, working out and online school. I have been watching All American and all of the Marvel movies again."
VYPE: What's your message to younger players going through this as well?
Caruso: "My message to younger players is to never take this time for granted and to play every game like it's your last. It goes by so fast and to enjoy every second of it."
