Bowie and Dripping Springs might have two of the most overshadowed sports teams in the state. Yet, there they are, year after year, punching their respective tickets to the postseason in most sports right alongside Westlake and Lake Travis.
That’s especially true when it comes to baseball. So far, at least, 2025 is following that same script, which is why this week’s clash between the Dawgs and the Tigers makes for a perfect Series Spotlight.
Dripping Springs entered the 2025 season as one of the favorites to win the district – and most prognosticators feel like they’ll make a deep playoff run. Coach Chris Payne’s Tigers are coming off a 2024 campaign that saw Drip go 26-11 overall and 14-2 in what was then a 9-team District 26-6A. Last year’s season ended on a brutal walk-off balk in Game 3 of the Area round.
Speaking of brutal, this veteran team with virtually all the key players back from last year’s squad survived a brutal tournament season. The Tigers held their own against a plethora of state powerhouses and seem to be hitting their stride as we’ve reached district play. Dripping Springs enters this critical series with Bowie at 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the district.
The Bowie Bulldogs have followed a different path this season. Unlike their Hill Country rivals, the Dawgs graduated a ton of talent from last year’s squad that went 22-12 and 10-6 in the district before similarly, if less dramatically, falling in the Area Round. As might be expected with so many new faces, Coach Sam Degelia’s team has experienced some ups and downs this year -- but Bowie has defeated some solid area teams in tournament play as the Bulldogs rebuild on the fly. The Dawgs enter this series at 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the district.
With Spring Break in the mirror, teams will get back to a more normal Tuesday/Friday schedule and this series will follow that same path. Game 1 will be tomorrow (3/25) from venerable Burger Field before the series moves to Tigers Field in Dripping Springs on Friday (3/28).
VYPE Live will have two separate broadcasts for each game, one for each team, so fans can find “their” broadcasts as Dripping Springs and Bowie step into the spotlight.
