Anderson lashes Lehman

Anderson is back in the race.

After back-to-back tough losses to teams from Aggie land – College Station and A&M Consolidated – to start district play, the Anderson Trojans romped to a lopsided 64-7 rout over the Lehman Lobos Thursday night (10/3) at Bob Shelton Stadium in Buda.

Anderson put this one away early. The Trojans raced out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 50-0 at the half before coasting home in the second half.

Trojans quarterback Max Gerlich had a monster night. The senior signal caller completed 12 of 14 passes for 338 yards and six touchdowns before giving way to junior Mason Randolph, who tossed a scoring strike of his own.

Senior Tristan Waidelich caught four passes on the night, all for touchdowns. Senior Ed Small had 142 receiving yards and two touchdowns on five catches while senior Zayden Sharp nabbed a scoring strike and added a rushing touchdown. Sophomore Jay Fuller (8-53, TD) also had a rushing touchdown.

Freshman Zane Barber rushed for the only Lobo score of the night as Lehman (0-4, 0-6) remained winless.

The win reinjects the Trojans into the playoffs race. The Trojans currently sit one game behind fourth place Hays and a half-game back of Hendrickson and Lockhart in the District 12-5A-1 playoff chase.

Anderson (1-2, 3-2) hosts Hendrickson (1-0, 2-2) in a key District 12-5A-1 matchup from Nelson Stadium in Friday night’s VYPE/ESPN Austin radio Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week on 102.7 FM.
