Austin High mauled by Wildcats

The Austin High Maroons are a much-improved football team. Unfortunately for Coach Michael Riley’s squad, the Maroons ran headlong into a Temple buzzsaw. The Wildcats scored early and often, dominating the Maroons 52-13 at Wildcat Stadium in the final non-district contest of the year for Austin High.

An opening drive touchdown followed by a Safety staked the Wildcats to a quick 9-0 lead, but the Maroons bounced back. Reid Childers’ 3-yard run capped off a 58-yard drive to pull Austin High back to within 9-7 late in the opening quarter.

That was as close as the Maroons would get.

Temple rattled off 29 unanswered points to take a 38-7 lead into the locker room at the half. The Wildcats built their lead to 52-7 before Brandon Thomas tacked on a consolation score for Austin High.

Austin High (2-2) hosts Del Valle (2-2) to open District 26-6A play from House Park in Friday night’s VYPE/ESPN Austin radio Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week on 102.7 FM.
