Cedar Park holds off East View

If they only played five quarters.

The East View Patriots would be forgiven for thinking that. After all, East View staked a district foe to a comfortable lead for a second straight week. Then, for a second straight week, the Patriots mounted a furious fourth quarter rally, only to come up just short. This time it was a 31-29 heartbreaker to – and clutch victory for -- the Cedar Park Timberwolves.

East View struck first on a 1-yard run from Kieston Rainey (13-52, TD) before Cedar Park evened the score on a 21-yard pass from David Cooper to Jonah Johnson. The Patriots took their last lead of the night at 14-7 on a Ty Blair 4-yard run. However, Cedar Park scored 17 points in just over four minutes on a 30-yard field goal from Ben Ramos and touchdown runs from Cameron Graham and Lucas Viloria. That outburst capped a 24-point second quarter for the T’wolves, who led 24-14 at the half.

Blair (26-37, 236 yds., 2 TD, 2 INT; 14-115, TD rushing) and Cooper (27-34, 320 yards, 2 TD) each tossed third quarter touchdown passes to send it to the fourth quarter with Cedar Park ahead 31-20.

The Patriots crept within eight on a field goal then scored again on Blair’s 25-yard pass to Rainey. However, East View’s 2-point conversion attempt failed, and Cedar Park held on for the huge win as the Patriots’ late rally came up short for a second straight week.

Cedar Park (3-0, 4-2) hosts Glenn (0-3, 2-4) Friday night (10/18) in a key District 8-5A-1 clash VYPE will broadcast. Meanwhile, East View (1-2, 3-3) faces its own critical district showdown with neighborhood nemesis Georgetown (2-1, 5-1) from Birkelbach Field in Friday night’s VYPE/ESPN Austin radio Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week on 102.7 FM.
