CHECK MATE: Fulshear’s Bryant commits to UH; talks senior year

The month of June is here, which means it is officially "visit season" for 2025 recruits looking to find their home for the foreseeable future.

For incoming senior Fulshear defensive lineman Chance Bryant, finding where he would play his collegiate career was right down the road.

Bryant took his official visit this weekend to the University of Houston and proceeded to commit to the Coogs, over Rice and Tulsa.

“I’ve always liked Houston with the new coaching staff,” he said. “Once I got there for the official visit, it was awesome. The coaches and other recruits who were already in the class, just made it feel like home.”

For Bryant, the ability to play Power 4 ball in the city he’s grown up in means everything.

“Obviously with them being in the Power 4 was huge for me, having the ability to play at a high level,” Bryant said. “When you take that, plus it being so close to home in the big city of Houston that I know and love, it was just a perfect fit.”

The star defensive lineman for the Chargers is a football junky, always working on his craft. But, Bryant also prepares for the mental aspect to the game in a unique way.

“I picked up playing chess recently, competing against my brother,” he said. “Chess has a huge learning curve and being able to learn and figure out the mental aspect of the game applies to everything in life.”

With his senior year approaching and Fulshear moving up to 6A, Bryant is looking forward to a big year.

“I plan to get back in double-digit sacks this year and have more tackles for loss,” Bryant said. “I will actually be going both ways this year playing on the O-line as well, so I’m just looking forward to the challenge and getting to State.”
