Regional Finals PREVIEW: Forney and Frisco Wakeland face-off in Regional Finals showdown

It's another Dallas-Fort Worth area against Dallas-Fort Worth area matchup in the Regional Finals as the Forney Jackrabbits (28-9-1, 12-2) take on the Frisco Wakeland Wolverines (23-13, 12-6). Both teams have put in the time, effort, and dedication in order to make it this far. VYPE DFW lays out just what fans can expect going into this week's series.

Forney Jackrabbits baseball (28-9-1, 12-2)

After ending last season with a six-loss streak, the Jackrabbits regrouped, found footing, and came into this season with a whole different mindset. The team posted incredible wins to open up their preseason play before finding themselves post a 12-2 district record to finish the regular season at the top of their district. On the hunt for more this season, the Jackrabbits have been ready to take down anyone who comes between them and the state tournament.

So far in playoffs, Forney has ended the seasons of Midlothian (2-0L, 15-2, 11-1), Nacogdoches (6-5, 3-0L, 9-2), Corsicana (3-2), and Frisco Lone Star (3-0, 3-2).

Frisco Wakeland Wolverines Baseball (23-12, 12-6)

The Wolverines finished second in their district after posting a 12-6 district record. With victories over the likes of Frisco Independence, Frisco, Frisco Centennial, and more, Wakeland has been able to sharpen themselves against some of the strongest teams in the DFW area. The team was able to play big defense against tough opponents and put their bats to work when they needed it the most.

So far in playoffs, Wakeland has ended the seasons of Denison (4-2, 5-1), Dallas W.T. White (8-2, 14-2), Frisco Independence (4-0, 9-4), and Lufkin (6-3L, 2-1, 6-4). With the ability to step up to a call of action, the Wolverines are known for making big plays at the perfect time. Fans can expect the defense to play strong during this series.


What To Expect:

A hard-fought series all around. Both teams have what it takes to put the pedal to the metal and really get the fire turned up. It's going to come down to game-by-game defense, though. Whichever defense can pick apart the batters first is going to be who prevails. Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday at Rider's Field in Frisco. Game two will be played at 7:30 p.m. at Rockwall-Heath and a third game will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday at McKinney Boyd if necessary.
