San Marcos QB And Teammates Go Way Back

By VYPE Media's Amanda Lattimer

Senior quarterback Alex Garcia has been a bright spot for the San Marcos Rattlers so far this season. At five years old, he was already in tackle football and stayed with it ever since. He remembers throwing a football with his dad and it only escalated from there.

Throughout his childhood, Garcia ventured to other sports as well, but his love for football never went away. Currently, Garcia plays baseball during his football offseason. He said that it is a nice balance because they are in two different seasons. However, it is a quick turnaround each year to switch back to each sport.

Garcia has always been a San Marcos local, and has grown up in the community with a lot of the same people he is playing with today. Some of the players were even on the same tackle football team when Garcia was five years old. Having that special bond within the team has definitely added to the team's success and Garcia said that is something he is going to miss. Being a senior on the team, Garcia is trying to hold on to this season and take it all in.

"It's been really eye-opening because this may be my last year playing football," said Garcia. "I guess it hasn't hit me yet, but it will pretty soon and I'm just trying to enjoy every little moment."

Garcia has been focused on being a leader on the team this season and hopes that the Rattlers can come together and win the upcoming games. The key factor to the team is the relationships made and that is one thing Garcia expresses is his favorite part of the sport.

"[My favorite thing is] the relationships with all the teammates," said Garcia. "There are different types of friends that you meet and some people that I probably would have never talked to if it weren't for football."
