Spring Woods Tigers: Building for the Future

During the spring, Rebecca Campbell has two off-periods during her schedule.

For one of those, the Spring Woods volleyball coach goes over to Spring Oaks Middle School to work with sixth graders in the "Advanced Movers" program. This is in hopes to introduce some of them to the game of volleyball.

"We have a theme about 'closing the gap'," Campbell said. "Our girls don't tend to play club volleyball, while other high schools have a lot of players that play club year-round. Our focus has to be on investing in our feeder schools and developing those players ourselves."

Along with Campbell, players will go over to the feeder school for Spring Woods and help teach the girls volleyball as well.

"I think it's a great opportunity to encourage more girls to join volleyball," junior Daniela Sanchez said. "And for them to see a sneak peek into what it's like if you put in the hard work."

Cruz Monserrat, who was moved up to the varsity this year as part of a big group of sophomores, said she wants them to love volleyball like she does.

"I like doing it because I want them to experience what we feel playing on the court, going against players with a high skill-level."
