Class of 2024 athlete Zechariah Sample is one of the top playmakers from the Greater Houston-Area, but college recruiters need a a map App to find out where he plays. Katy Jordan? Yes the KISD new school is already producing talent.
At 5-foot-10, 166-pounds, Sample is electric in the slot with a 4.5 40-yard dash and displayed that this year with 595 receiving yards and 6 TDs. He also chipped in 145 rushing yards and 3 TDs, while also having 239 return yards only playing 8 of 10 games due to injury.
Sample picked up offers from Jackson State, Grambling State and Mississippi Valley State before his junior season, but after the season was finished, his recruitment has seen major movement picking up his first two FBS offers from Tulsa and UNLV. Today, he picked up a big-time offer from Arizona State.
“It feels good knowing that the hours I put in during the offseason is starting to pay off,” said Sample.
The Sun Devils have been very active in Texas recruiting since WR coach Rashaad Samples and DB coach Brian Carrington were hired on staff. They extended an offer to Sample, putting on the major DI recruiting radar.
So, what was he thinking when he got the call?
“It was definitely a surprise,” he said. “I was wondering what I would look like in that Sun Devil uniform.”
The junior athlete mentioned that he has also been in contact with Tennessee and Mississippi State as of late, and mentioned he plans on taking a trip up to Tulsa and Tennessee in months to come.
So, what are his offseason plans?
“Personally, I want to continue to put on more muscle without losing my speed. We got so close to making the playoffs last year and I just want to help lead my team to make some real noise," he said.
Sample’s recruitment is heating up at the right time and playing on the 7v7 circuit and camp season should help his offer list grow by the time his senior year comes around.
