STILL SWINGING: Lake Creek perfection continues

Lake Creek is on the cusp on becoming a legitimate dynasty in the world of Texas Softball.

One year after winning the UIL-5A State Championship, in undefeated (41-0) fashion, the Lions still have yet to lose a game, as they currently tout an astonishing 72-game winning streak. With each win they acquire, Lake Creek expands upon their record for longest softball winning-streak in Texas high school history.

So, what has made this Montgomery ISD team ascend to such an elite status, despite only being established nearly five years ago?

“Every day, we talk about taking it one game at a time," said Head Coach Michelle Rochinski. "We can't look past any team. Our district is very competitive and anyone can be beaten on any given day. Despite our success, we talk about not letting the outside noise get to us, and as long as we stay focused and play 'our' game, we have the ability to achieve our main goal."

Only two district games remain before the Bi-District Round begins (April 29), and Lake Creek sits comfortably at the top of their district (21-5A), patiently waiting for the chance to run it back.

“I feel privileged to have such great kids and athletes," Rochinski said. "They've all worked hard from the minute they walked in as freshmen. The girls are very coachable and have fully bought into what we're trying to accomplish in the long run. If we can get two wins a week, we should end up where we eventually want to be."

It’s no secret who the stars are on the Lions’ roster

The reigning State MVP, Florida-signee Ava Brown (Sr. RHP/1B), continues to play at the level we’ve all grown accustomed to, pitching for an insane 0.57 ERA, with a team-high 52 RBIs and 6 homers to boot.

LSU-signee Maddie McKee (Sr. SS) maintains her blazing speed, having already stolen 56 bases, with a .559 batting average, while junior RF Carmen Uribe (Central Arkansas-commit) has played a critical role in Lake Creek's offense (.590 BA, 62 H, 51 R, 38 SB), and UTSA-signee Kalee Rochinski (Sr. C) has been putting up some impressive numbers as well (.368 BA, 20 RBIs, 2 HRs, .996 FP).

With the postseason on the horizon, Lake Creek appears to be superior in every phase of the game. Considering all the veterans who will be graduating shortly after the State Tournament, a second Title would be the perfect way to cap off their storied tenures.

“Obviously, it isn't going to be easy," said Rochinski. "We know everyone is out to get us. It would mean the world to me. With my daughter being a senior, I have watched so many of these girls grow up playing this game. We just have to go out and play every game like it could be the last."
