Class 5A softball collision course? Who stands in the way this week

The Class 5A softball Regional Tourney looks to be a collision course of super-powers Lake Creek and Santa Fe. Not so fast, however. Who might derail them? Take a look out the VYPE Regional Quarter prospectus going into the weekend.

LAKE CREEK VS WALLER

The Lions of Lake Creek are 33-0 overall and 14-0 in district play. They are outrageously talented with Maddie Mckee (LSU) leading off the batting lineup, followed by Ava Brown (Florida), Kalee Rochinski, Madelyn Lopez and Carmen Uribe. Scary though is that everyone except Lopez returns next year. Brown is unhittable with a 0.42 ERA. It’s not fair, really. Waller will be quick work.

PREDICTION: Lake Creek sweeps.

FRIENDSWOOD vs CROSBY

The Mustangs went 15-1 in district play and split with Santa Fe during the season. Janelle Wilson and Chloe Riassetto lead the ‘Stangs on the mound, while Alaina Schaeffer, Baileigh Burtis and Riassetto light up the scoreboard with their bats. Crosby had a solid season with a 31-6 record on the season.

PREDICTION: It’s Friendswood’s time. The ‘Stangs advance

SANTA FE VS FOSTER

This is the biggest series in Class 5A Region III. The Indians are led by Sidne Peters and Foster is led by super soph Ella McDowell. Foster took down defending State Champs Barbers Hill. Can they keep their dream season alive against one of the most balanced teams in the area?

PREDICTION: Santa Fe has too much talent all over the diamond for Foster to compete with. The Falcons are a year away.

KINGWOOD PARK VS BRENHAM

Kingwood Park is back in the Regional Tourney for the first time in a few years. Hannah Leierer will toe the rubber with a 1.99 ERA, while Taysia Constantino anchors the offense. Chloe Wilson is also a table-setter for the Panthers. Brenham finished second in District 19-5A to Waller and has a solid ace on the mound.

PREDICTION: K-Park advances in hard-fought series
