THE UNDEFEATED: Houston-area teams finish regular season unblemished

It is really hard to go undefeated in a regular season.

That means for 10-straight games you might not have been perfect but did enough to keep out of the loss column. As one coach said every team expects a lull to hit, it just depends on when it happens.

But entering Week 11 there were nine Houston-area teams that could complete the regular season undefeated and those finished the mission.

New Caney - The Eagles defeated Porter 37-0 to claim the Battle Line on 59 trophy for a 10th-straight season. The win also improved the Eagles' record to 10-0 giving them their second-straight 10-win campaign and first-ever undefeated regular season. New Caney has been playing football since 1955 and never before finished a regular season undefeated.

Shadow Creek - The Sharks blew out BF Terry 63-0 on Friday, finishing their second-ever varsity season 10-0. This marks the second-straight year Shadow Creek has gone 10-0 to start a year. Yes, as crazy as this sounds but the Sharks enter the playoffs next week with an all-time program record of 25-1. The lone loss came to Highland Park last year in the state championship game.

Huffman - The Huffman Falcons defeated the Livingston Lions on Friday, 55-14, to finish the year 10-0. This marks the first 10-win season for Mike McEachern, who has led the program since 2009. The 10 wins is a high-water mark for the program last reached in 1984. Never before this year has a Huffman football team posted an undefeated regular season. With a playoff win next week, Huffman will set a new program record for wins in a season.

Fort Bend Travis - The Tigers finally roared in 2019! Fort Bend Travis experienced a lot of firsts this season led by senior quarterback Eric Rodriguez and receiver Parker Washington. The Tigers clinched the program's first-ever district championship with a gutsy win over Ridge Point. Fort Bend Travis finished off the perfect regular season on Thursday with a 21-10 win over FB Bush. Reaching the 10-win marks a first in program history. Prior to this year, the best record for the Tigers was last season's 8-3 mark.

Manvel - Since Hoka Hey nation opened its doors for its first season in 2008, the Mavericks have made some what of a tradition of going undefeated in the regular season. The first came in 2011, the next in 2014, then in 2016 and 2017. Now, add 2019 to the list as the Tucker Yarbrough-led Mavericks posted a perfect regular season. The Mavericks finished it off with a 49-0 victory over Waltrip. If the undefeated regular season is an omen, it is a good one for Manvel as in two of their previous four undefeated regular season years, the Mavericks reached the state title game.

Katy - This is just what Katy does right? Win district titles, finish seasons undefeated and then go on to win state championships. This marks the third time since 2015 the program has accomplished this feat. In 2015, the Tigers went a perfect 16-0, winning the program's state-record-tying 8th state championship. Overall, since 1944 this marks the 16th time that Katy has posted an undefeated regular season. This is the 10th time under Gary Joseph's tutelage that the Tigers have posted that perfect regular season record.

Cy-Fair - For only the fourth time in program history the Bobcats of Cy-Fair have posted an undefeated regular season completing it with a dominating win against Cypress Creek. It is the first time the Bobcats have done this since 2017 - the last time Cy-Fair won a state championship.

Second Baptist School - Party like it is 1999. The Eagles crushed Lutheran South on Friday to complete the first perfect season in 20 years. The Second Baptist School now turns to the playoffs to try and make it to the TAPPS Championship on December 6.

The Woodlands Christian Academy - For the first time since 2014, The Woodlands Christian Academy has completed an undefeated regular season. The Warriors are rolling into the playoffs after defeating Northland Christian 52-6 on Friday.
