VYPE HOOPS: Top Trios In Houston

* By VYPE Hoops Insider Ray Meach*

The 2019-2020 basketball scenes is loaded with exciting and high caliber independent performances. LaMarques Jordan Ivy-Curry opened up the season with a 56pt debut, Baylor commit LJ Cryer has gone on surpass the 3k mark in career scoring and Justin Hill (Travis High School) carried his team to several big wins while averaging just over 30pts per game for a stretch. While each player holds their own weight, the following trios below have been causing major problems for teams. The scouting report is a lot less complicated when there is only one player to plan for, but when there are multiple guys doing the damage, things get a lot harder.

Dickinson

Tramon Mark, Marcus Williams & Deuce Guidry

This trio could be the best in the state and that is saying a lot. Some consider Dickinson to be the only school with enough fire power to knock off the defending state champs, Duncanville. Early in the season there were concerns that the ball would not move enough but the Gators have put a rest to nearly every doubt. One of the most impressive performances by the group was combining for 85 points and 21 assists. Williams 36pts & 11ast, Mark 35pts & 4 ast and Guidry added 16pts & 6ast. When the ball is moving and shots are falling they are dangerous!

St Thomas Episcopal

JaKoby Flores, Melvin Holloway & Tyler Thomas

STE had a bit of slow start to begin the season but have begun to figure it out. Junior Jakoby Flores is the lead man, Holloway has found just how much he can impact the game with his passing ability and new new comer Tyler Thomas does the dirty work. Their last three performances consisted of:

  1. Flores 18pts, 11ast & 5stl. Holloway 20pts, 10rbs & 7stl. Thomas 20pts, 6r & 3stl
  2. Flores 20pts, 10ast & 4stl. Holloway 14pts, 2ast & 4stl. Thomas 17pts, 2ast & 3stl
  3. Flores 24pts, 7ast & 2stl. Holloway 22pts 5ast & 5stl. Thomas 20pts, 2ast & 6stl

Summer Creek

JaVon Jackson, Dylan Miles and Dylen Scales

Is it better to be feared or respected? They may not have the most talked about backcourt city but they certainly have one of the most respected back courts in the state. It's not only their high powering offense but also their chemistry and versatility that will hurt you. They can be up big or trying to dig out of a hole and never lose composure. With big wins over Atascocita, Port Author Memorial, and Beaumont United, the Summer Creek Bull dogs are primed for a strong playoff run.

Yates

Antwon Norman, Rubin Jones & Elijah Elliot

Year after year the front of the Yates press has been causing havoc and this year is no different. North Texas commit Rubin Jones leads the pack and Norman and Elliot round out the top making this one of the most powerful Yates teams of all time and that is saying a lot. They play fast, they play hard and they are getting better with each possession that is played. See more about this Yates team HERE.
